Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority

STRUCTURAL STRENGTHENING, TYFO® SYSTEM
OVERVIEW

The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority required the repair of the existing Robert F. Kennedy Bridge concrete super structure due to concrete spalling and deterioration. WSP and HNTB, consulting engineering firms, developed the design for the concrete repair and protection plan. The concrete spall was chipped and removed from the pier cap and the concrete replaced as required. Once the concrete cured, a layer of Tyfo® WEB bi-directional glass fiber was installed to protect the concrete structure from the elements and future degradation.

Fyfe Company’s certified applicator, Takbeer Enterprises located in Maspeth New York, provided the installation of the Tyfo® WEB system as well as the finishing of the fiberreinforced polymer with the specified paint. Adhesion tests were performed on the Tyfo® WEB system to ensure proper adhesion and bond to the substrate of the new and existing concrete.
